FIRE LIFE SAFETY DIRECTOR (FLSD)
CERTIFICATION COURSES

ACCREDITED SCHOOL

 

Effective February 1st, 2018 the FDNY has enacted new rules regarding Fire Life Safety Director (FLSD) Certification (F-89).

The FLSD course is composed of three components with three graduation exams. Schools will provide diplomas that clearly indicate the hours and components completed. Brand new candidates must take all three components (31 hours). All current F-85 Certificate of Fitness (C of F) holders must take the Non-Fire Emergencies (EAP) course (7 hours).

1. General Topics and Fire Emergency – 20 hours

2. Non-Fire Emergencies (EAP) – 7 hours

3. Active Shooter/Medical Emergency Preparedness (ASMEP) – 4 hours

Qualifications for Course Enrollment:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a reasonable understanding of the English language
  • Applicants must have at least 3 years full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields -OR- 18 months full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields that includes 6 months of continuous employment at one work location:
  • Firefighter, Fire Inspector, Fire Marshall, Police Officer, Volunteer Firefighter,
    Correction Officer in any country.
  • Building Maintenance Personnel (e.g. engineers, Class E or J-1 Building
    Superintendent, etc.).
  • Building/Residence/Property Manager.
  • Building Evacuation Supervisor (must be listed on the Building Fire Safety Plan
    or Comprehensive Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plan).
  • Floor Warden or Brigade Member (must be listed on the Building Fire Safety Plan
    or Comprehensive Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plan).
  • Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm System in Homeless Shelters.
  • Construction Site Fire Safety Manager or Site Safety Manager.

GENERAL TOPICS


JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2020

20 hours total - students must attend three (3) consecutive classes January & February 2020.

JANUARY 21 - Class One 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
JANUARY 28 - Class Two 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
FEBRUARY 4 - Class Three 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

 

NON FIRE

JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2020

11 hours total - students must attend 2 consecutive classes January or February 2020

JANUARY 13 - Class One 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
JANUARY 14 - Class Two 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
FEBRUARY 10 - Class One 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
FEBRUARY 11 - Class Two 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
